Treating snoring and sleep apnea in Zurich – with dental sleep medicine

InterSleep is a treatment concept for dental sleep medicine at the Swiss Dental Center at Hardbrücke in Zurich. We treat snoring as well as mild and moderate obstructive sleep apnea with custom-made mandibular advancement splints – following the guidelines of the Swiss Society for Sleep Research, Sleep Medicine and Chronobiology (SSSSC) and the German Society of Dental Sleep Medicine (DGSM), since 2007. As an interdisciplinary concept, collaboration with sleep physicians, ENT and pulmonary specialists as well as other medical specialists is the basis of everything we do.

Mandibular advancement splints / anti-snoring splint / apnea splint

Mandibular advancement splints are used to treat snoring and breathing pauses (sleep apnea).

This is done exactly as required by the professional guidelines of the Swiss Society for Sleep Research, Sleep Medicine and Chronobiology (SSSSC) and the German Society of Dental Sleep Medicine (DGSM). In this way, snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea are treated.

Patients with severe sleep apnea should in every case first be treated with mask ventilation. If you cannot tolerate it, our mandibular advancement splints are a treatment alternative which, although weaker than CPAP, is better than remaining untreated.

When you come to the Swiss Dental Center for a consultation/examination, we ask you to bring any sleep-medicine findings with you – if you already have them. A polygraphy (overnight measurement at home) or a polysomnography (measurement in a sleep laboratory) without any treatment device, i.e. your “baseline measurement”, is important for knowing exactly what problem you have.

At the first appointment we check whether, from a dental point of view, you are suitable for a mandibular advancement splint.

You already have a dentist?

That can stay that way!
Since Dr Adler focuses his work on dental sleep medicine, he is happy to work together with your existing practice. With us, you receive only the nocturnal splint therapy.

Bite splints / grinding splints

Another type of splint is for patients who overload their teeth, chewing muscles and the jaw joint at night through grinding or clenching.
Such splints can be simple protective splints or highly individualised bite splints. You are examined and advised on what represents the best treatment alternative for you.
