Costs & health insurance: what does the treatment cost?
In brief: A custom-made dental splint – mandibular advancement splint or bite splint – costs at InterSleep, depending on the system and effort, CHF 1,500 to 2,700, including fitting and the first check-up session. For diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea with a medical prescription, mandatory basic health insurance usually covers the costs in full. Before treatment, on request you receive a written quote for the prior cost approval.

The splint costs already include more than CHF 700 in laboratory costs for the individual manufacture – the difference from prefabricated test splints from the internet or the pharmacy, which fit far worse and last less long.
When does health insurance pay?
For diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea: if it has been prescribed by a medical professional, mandatory basic health insurance usually covers the cost of the mandibular advancement splint in full – for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, or if you have severe sleep apnea and cannot tolerate the CPAP ventilation therapy that would normally be indicated.
For simple snoring without pauses in breathing: here, mandatory basic health insurance usually does not cover the costs, as primary snoring is not medically classed as a condition. The splint is then a self-paid service.
