Treating snoring in Zurich – gently, without surgery
When you want to treat your snoring in Zurich, a custom-made mandibular advancement splint (snoring splint) is in many cases the most effective non-surgical solution. At the Swiss Dental Center at Hardbrücke we fit it according to the InterSleep concept – following the guidelines of the Swiss Society for Sleep Research, Sleep Medicine and Chronobiology (SSSSC) and the German Society of Dental Sleep Medicine (DGSM).
How the treatment works
The splint holds the lower jaw slightly forward during sleep. This keeps the throat open and prevents the tongue from falling back – the snoring sound is markedly reduced or disappears completely. The splint is made individually in the laboratory to fit your bite; prefabricated “boil-and-bite” splints from the internet or the pharmacy do not achieve this effect or this wearing comfort.
The steps of your treatment in Zurich
- First appointment: dental examination to see whether a mandibular advancement splint is suitable for you. Please bring any existing sleep-medicine findings (polygraphy or polysomnography) with you.
- Clarification: if it is unclear whether you have “just” snoring or sleep apnea, we work together with sleep physicians, ENT and pulmonology specialists.
- Scan & fabrication: a scan of your rows of teeth and individual manufacture in the laboratory.
- Fitting & check-up: adjustment, gradual setting of the forward positioning, monitoring of the treatment success.
What does snoring treatment in Zurich cost?
A custom-made, technically high-quality mandibular advancement splint costs between CHF 1,500 and 2,700 (laboratory and dental fees, including the first check-up session). On request, you will receive a cost estimate before treatment begins.
Frequently asked questions about snoring treatment in Zurich
Does a snoring splint also help with sleep apnea?
Yes, for mild and moderate obstructive sleep apnea the mandibular advancement splint is a guideline-based therapy. For severe sleep apnea, a CPAP mask should be tried first; if this is not tolerated, the splint is a treatment alternative.
Does health insurance cover the costs?
For simple snoring without pauses in breathing, usually not, as it is not classed as a medical condition. It is different with diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea: if it has been prescribed by a medical professional, mandatory basic health insurance usually covers the cost of the mandibular advancement splint in full – for mild to moderate sleep apnea syndrome, or if you have severe sleep apnea and cannot tolerate the CPAP therapy that would normally be indicated. We advise you individually on this.
Do I have to change my dentist?
No. You stay with your own dentist for routine care. With us, you receive only the nocturnal splint therapy – if you wish, in coordination with your existing practice.
How quickly does the splint work?
Usually from the very first night you wear the splint. The optimal setting of the forward jaw positioning is achieved gradually at the follow-up appointments.

What sets InterSleep apart from a normal dental practice?
Fitting individual advancement splints is not part of standard dental training. The InterSleep concept has existed since 2007 and works on an interdisciplinary basis with sleep medicine, ENT and pulmonology; the practitioners have their main focus of activity in dental sleep medicine.
